Your Mother is always with you.... She's the whisper of the leaves as you walk down the street; she's the smell of bleach in your freshly laundered socks; she's the cool hand on your brow when you're not well. Your Mother lives inside your laughter. And she's crystallized in every tear drop. She's the place you came from, your first home; and she's the map you follow with every step you take. She's your first love and your first heartbreak, and nothing on earth can separate you. Not time, not space... not even death!

This memorial website was created to remember our beloved mother, wife, sister, daughter, friend Judy Fehr who was born in Whittier, California on October 20, 1942 and passed away on May 3, 2007 at the age of 64. You will live forever in our memories and hearts.

                   *********************************

Judy was born October 20th, 1942 to Doris & Fred Bradley. She overcame tremendous obstacles at birth as her mother had German Measles at that time and she was given only one year to live due to a hole in her heart.  Apparently, a few years later, the doctors said she would never be able to have children, either.

She grew up (mainly) in Whittier, CA. with her two brothers, Mike & Dan.  She moved around a lot as a kid, partially due to her step-dad, Clint’s role in the military.  She and her brothers spent some time living on a military base in Kwajalein (Quad-jew-lane), a small island in the Pacific, which she often talked about.  She also lived with her grandma, Millie, at times, as well as her father and step-mother, Betty, and her Aunt Irene.  Through all the moving around, she would probably still consider Whittier her home as she grew up.  She graduated from Whittier High School in 1961.

In her early adulthood, she worked in a nursing facility and also took care of (and be-friended) two disabled girls, Carol and Lisa.  Judy, Lisa, and Carol would frequent a small bar in Norwalk called “The Sandbar” to listen to the live band that played there.

In October of 1976, at age 34, she met her husband, Ronald Fehr, at “The Sandbar” when she approached him at the bar and asked him to dance when the DJ announced that the next song was ladies-choice.  (He says that after that dance, he went back to the bar area to have another beer to work up some courage to ask HER to dance with HIM.)

They got married on August 20, 1977 in the “Little Chapel of the Flowers” when her mother, Doris, and step-dad, Jerry, flew them to Vegas in Jerry’s Cessna airplane.  The newlyweds returned to Ron’s condo in Cerritos, where they would call home for the next 29 years.

On March 24, 1978, Judy gave birth to her only child, Scott, who was her pride & joy.  Judy initially became a stay-at-home mom.  Once Scott was old enough to attend school she got a job at his elementary school, Juarez, as a noon-duty supervisor, where she worked for 8 years.  (During that time she also picked up another part-time job as a security guard, which worried her family greatly, but thankfully did not last for very long.)  She also took jobs babysitting kids from Juarez before and after school while their parents were at work.

Judy was eventually forced into retirement due to her building health issues.  She overcame hydroencephalitis (Hydro-en-cef-a-lite-us), several strokes, heart problems, diabetes…you name it, with optimism & spunk.  She proved many doctors wrong and, as some would say, was a medical miracle.

Once retired, she spent a lot of her time watching her favorite TV programs, talking to friends and family on the phone, and ordering things through the mail.  Once her son was out of the house and her husband joined her in retirement, they spent their time going on cruises, visiting relatives across the United States, and playing canasta with Scott & their soon-to-be daughter-in-law, Veronica (who Judy loved dearly and was ecstatic about having as a daughter-in law) when they weren’t already busy with doctors appointments and trips to Harrah’s.

On May 3rd, 2007, already weakened by a small heart attack & seizure less than two months earlier, she suddenly succumbed to an infection in her body.  She was 64.

Judy was a loving wife, and a caring mother, sister, & friend.  She was a kind, caring soul and was always looking to help others out.  We will miss her dearly.

Cindy

I thought of Aunt Judy today and came by to see her pictures. This summer in Illinois just wasn't the same without you here!

Love you,

Cindy

Some of the memories of our 29 years together are our wedding in Las Vegas, Nev. on Aug 20, 1977.  Our son Scott being born and you and I raising him.  One wonderful son.  Taking a vacation to Hawaii, going to Illinois every year to visit with my relatives.  Going to Myrtle Beach and staying in a beach house with some of my relatives.  Taking in Craig & Carly's wedding reception in Myrtle beach and you getting a "ring" from the finger of an Elvis impersonator.  Going on a cruise to Ensenada, Mexico, going to Anchorage, Alaska to visit and then taking the inside passage cruise with part of my family.   The many games of canasta that we had with Scott & Veronica.  (they usually beat us.)  Hearing of Scott & Veronica  getting engaged on New Years Eve this past year and being able to watch it on a C.D. made by one of their friends.  (You watched that C.D. many times and really enjoyed it)  Going to Scott & Veronica's engagement party picnic at Mayfair Park in Lakewood.  The many overnight ventures that we made to Harrah's.   There were many more memories, but those were the most memorable.   It will never be the same without you there with me.  I miss you very much and love you dearly.  Your loving husband.   Ron.
